As the demand for safe vehicles continues to grow, Ford has taken significant steps to ensure its models stand out. The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E and the 2024-25 F-150 have recently received prestigious awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), further solidifying Ford’s reputation as a leader in automotive safety.
The 2024 Mustang Mach-E has achieved the esteemed TOP SAFETY PICK+ award for models made after August 2024. This recognition is a testament to the vehicle's outstanding performance in crashworthiness and crash-avoidance evaluations conducted by the IIHS.
To earn the TOP SAFETY PICK+ status, a vehicle must pass strict criteria. For instance, it must achieve good ratings in key areas such as the small overlap front test, updated side tests, and at least an acceptable score in the moderate front test. In 2023, 85% of vehicles tested by the IIHS did not meet these rigorous standards, making the Mach-E's achievements even more impressive. Furthermore, it must also show effectiveness in pedestrian crash prevention and have good headlight performance across all trims.
Following closely, the 2024-25 F-150 has also been awarded the TOP SAFETY PICK for models produced after September 2024. This accolade reflects a commitment to safety, corroborated by the IIHS's thorough testing protocols.
The recognition not only celebrates the truck's crash test results but also highlights the cutting-edge safety technologies Ford has integrated. For example, the 2024 F-150 includes improved automatic emergency braking systems and enhanced lane-keeping assist features. According to IIHS ratings, vehicles equipped with automatic emergency braking reduce rear-end collisions by 50%. The F-150's blend of traditional strength and modern safety technology makes it a top choice among truck enthusiasts.
Bob Holycross, Ford’s chief sustainability, environment, and safety officer, stated, “Our rigorous internal safety evaluations ensure Ford and Lincoln products meet the highest standards. Across our portfolio, we are dedicated to designing safe experiences for our customers and all road users. We are proud of these achievements and remain committed to continuous improvement.”
